Look directly above the damaged board
A split tile, old felt or faulty gutter joint may be keeping that section wet.
Old felt can sag behind the fascia
It can collect water and discharge it against the back of the timber.
Check the rafter ends
If the fascia comes off, check the rafter ends behind it. Replacing only the visible board can hide decayed structural timber.
