One slate may be all that has moved
If the surrounding courses are secure, a local repair can be enough.
Several slipped slates can mean more of the fixings are failing
If slates keep coming loose from different parts of the same slope, the old nails or fixings may be failing.
The replacement slate needs to sit properly
The new slate should sit flat with the others and keep the correct overlap. Colour is less important than size and thickness.
